An insidious plot. A world in peril.
The Queen's Necklace is an epic tale which begins with the discovery of a
lost princess and an ancient artifact, and continues through duels,
elopements, chases, enchantments, seductions, intriques, fires, earthquakes,
explosions, and much, much more, to a thrilling conclusion.
In The Queen's Necklace, Teresa Edgerton takes her readers on an
amazing journey through an alien world--a decadent world of vast cities,
poisoned rivers, crumbling palaces, and mysterious ruins--revealing a
civilization far more ancient than our own, and introducing a remarkable cast
of characters, including magicians, adventurers, scholars, courtesans, healers, diplomats, poisoners, spies, and an
inhuman race unlike any that the reader has ever met before.
A race of Goblin sorcerers schemes to enslave Mankind.
For fifteen hundred years, the world has achieved a perilous balance. The hundred kingdoms and principalities are
dedicated to protecting the status quo. Yet society is beginning to fray around the edges; the ancient cities are
slowly but steadily lapsing into decay. And much depends on the so-called Goblin Jewels--tiny gem-studded
magical/mechanical devices which were created thousands of years ago by a race of sorcerers known as the
Maglore, who once ruled a world-spanning Empire.
Yet the Maglore, supposedly extinct for centuries, have merely been
hiding in plain sight. For the Maglore, though created of elements at once
more earthy and more volatile, are outwardly indistinguishable from Man.
Now, led by the Princess Ys, they are determined to win back the Jewels
and reclaim their lost Empire.
The plot unfolds in three great cities. In Tarnburgh, Ys plots to seduce and
ensnare young King Jarred of Winterscar. In Hawkesbridge, a device
known as "the Chaos Machine" goes missing, and it is up to the rakish
Wilrowan Blackheart and his estranged wife, Lili, to find and return it. In
Luden, the Mad King of Rijxland continues to hold court and rule his
kingdom from the confines of an insane asylum. With Rijxland so
vulnerable, the king's ambitious nephew is ready to take advantage of the
situation and throw in his lot with the Maglore.
Only Wilrowan, Lili, and a secret society known as the Specularii stand
between Humanity and the destructive forces of Goblin sorcery.
